Decedent is released to funeral home of family's choice. Death Certificate will be filled out by the funeral home, sent electronically to the Coroner's Office, signed, and sent electronically to the Baldwin County Health Department with Cause and Manner of Death listed
Specimen taken and the decedent is then released to funeral home of family's choice. Specimen is submitted to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The Death Certificate will be filled out by the funeral home, sent electronically to the Coroner's Office, signed, and sent electronically to the Baldwin County Health Department with cause and manner of death listed as Pending. Results for toxicology can take approximately 3 months.
Once toxicology results are received the death certificate will be amended with cause and manner of death and sent to Vital Statistics in Montgomery. The amended death certificate will be available approximately 7-10 days after receipt.

A funeral home should be selected as soon as possible to handle the arrangements.
*The legal next of kin should contact the Baldwin County Coroner's Office and advise which funeral home to release to.
The body will be taken to the Baldwin County Morgue at the Baldwin County Coroner's Office in Robertsdale. We will coordinate with the funeral home the transportation of your loved one from our facility to theirs.
The Coroner's Office is not designed to handle visitations or viewings. Arrangements for viewing at the funeral home should be made with the funeral director.
If an autopsy or medical records are not required the Coroner's Office may release directly to the funeral home. If an autopsy is required then the release will occur upon completion of the autopsy. In cases where additional investigation is required the body may be held longer.
The Death Certificate may be completed as soon as it is sent to our office for signature from the funeral home. If medical records have been requested then the Death Certificate will not be signed until the Coroner receives, reviews, and determines the cause of death. If an autopsy has been requested then the Death Certificate will be completed once we receive the preliminary report on the autopsy.
Death Certificates are not issued by the Coroner's Office. You may request a copy from the funeral home when arrangements are made, or by visiting the Baldwin County Health Department.

If an autopsy was conducted, the results will be available approximately 3 months later. Copies of the autopsy report may be obtained by going to https://appengine.egov.com/apps/al/adfs/
certified request. Autopsy reports on cases under investigation are not public records and are not released to anyone other than law enforcement agencies.
The office works 365 days per year, 24 hours a day.
